More than 500 employees at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board attended City Hall in Cardiff at an event where Nurses, doctors and other NHS staff were honoured for their unwavering dedication to their jobs at the annual Cardiff and Vale University Health Board staff recognition awards.

Shelley was amongst 33 members of staff who picked up nominations across 13 categories.

Volunteer of the Year Award: Shelley Johnson, Cardiac Rehabilitation

Shelley works full time as a civil engineer and in her spare time is an exercise instructor in addition to being a mother with young children.

But she also manages to volunteer two evenings a week at the University Hospital of Wales’ cardiac rehabilitation programme.

She felt compelled to offer her services after suffering terrible injuries in a near-fatal car crash in West Wales in 2013.

Shelly is highly motivated, enthusiastic, caring and has a never ending sense of humour – her commitment as a volunteer is phenomenal.
